Age-Appropriate Experience

We check your age at sign-up so we can provide the right experience for every user. On iOS 26 and later this uses Apple's Declared Age Range API, which shares only an age range — never your birthday; on earlier versions, and on Android, we ask for your date of birth.

• Under 13: Kanvio is not available to children under 13, in compliance with COPPA regulations.
• Ages 13–17: Accounts are automatically placed in a protected mode with sensible default restrictions. No setup required—protections are on from the start.
• 18 and older: Full access with optional wellbeing features you can turn on at any time.

Content Safety

Kanvio has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Reports are reviewed and acted on within 24 hours — offending content is removed and the offending user is ejected.

Every image and piece of text posted to Kanvio is automatically checked before it appears. Our content safety system works on three levels:

• Safe content is visible to everyone.
• Sensitive content is automatically hidden from users under 18.
• Prohibited content is removed and held for review. It is never shown to anyone.

In addition:

• Comments are automatically scanned for toxic or harmful language. High-toxicity comments are hidden from younger users.
• If a minor uploads a photo that appears to contain a face, they receive a gentle reminder to think twice before posting it publicly. The check runs entirely on the device — the photo is not uploaded for it, and no face data is stored.
• Any user can report content they find inappropriate. Reported content is reviewed and actioned quickly.
• The creator of a piece can remove a comment left on it. The comment stops being visible to everyone straight away. It is kept rather than destroyed, so that it stays available to our moderation team and to a lawful request — a comment can be the evidence in a harassment or child-safety report, and the person it is about should not be able to erase it. Its author can still delete their own comment at any time.

Screen Time & Wellbeing

Kanvio includes built-in tools to encourage healthy usage habits.

• Daily time limits: Minor accounts have a default daily limit of 60 minutes. When the limit is reached, the app pauses until a short cooldown period passes.
• Built-in breaks: While browsing, minor users see periodic pause cards that encourage them to take a break or go create something instead of scrolling.
• Feed limits: Minor accounts have a daily cap on how much content they can browse. When the cap is reached, they see a friendly message encouraging them to explore the real world or make something new.
• Night curfew: Parents can set hours when the app is unavailable (for example, 9 PM to 7 AM).
• Weekly recaps: A weekly summary shows users how they spent their time—encouraging a healthy balance between creating and consuming.
• Quiet by default: Kanvio uses silent push notifications only—no banners, no sounds, no chimes. The only thing notifications update is the small red number on the app icon, so you know there's something new without being interrupted.

Adults also have access to optional wellbeing features, including soft time reminders and break prompts.

Social & Privacy Protections

Minor accounts have additional social and privacy safeguards enabled by default.

• Limited profile visibility: Minor profiles display only their handle and artwork. No personal identifiers are shown.
• No social links: Minors cannot add links to external social media accounts on their profile. A linked parent can allow them.
• Mention notifications: Only a trusted friend's @mention reaches a minor — a stranger's produces no notification, and they aren't told it was dropped. A linked parent can widen this to everyone. On a minor's own pieces, strangers' comments are hidden outright.
• Block and Restrict: Every user has access to block and restrict tools, making it easy to control who can interact with them.
• Location sharing off by default: When minors create a piece, the location is hidden from other users by default. The art appears in feeds and on their profile, but not on the public map.
• Privacy Zones: Users can designate areas (like home or school) where their content is never shown on the map to others.
• Saved People is private: Bookmarking someone tells them nothing. There are no follower counts anywhere in Kanvio, and no way to see who has saved whom.

App Lock

You can require biometric authentication to open Kanvio — Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone and iPad, fingerprint or face unlock on Android — protecting your content if someone else picks up your unlocked phone.

• Optional: App Lock is off by default. Turn it on in Profile → Settings → Security.
• Device passcode fallback: If biometrics fail or aren't set up, you can unlock with your device passcode.
• Stays on your device: Authentication is handled entirely by your device's operating system. Kanvio never sees, stores, or transmits your face, fingerprint, or passcode.

Parent Controls

Parents can link their own Kanvio account to their child's account to customize and manage safety settings remotely—all from their own device.

How to Link Your Account

What You Can Control

Once linked, you have access to a full controls panel on your device:

• Screen time: Set daily time limits (from 30 minutes to unlimited) and cooldown periods.
• Curfew: Set hours when the app is off-limits.
• Feed limits: Adjust how much content your child can browse per day and how often break prompts appear.
• Content filtering: Sensitivity filters are always on for younger teens and can be managed for older teens.
• Trusted Friends Only mode: Limit your child's feed and map to only show content from their trusted friends.
• Friend approval: Require your approval before a new trusted friend takes effect. Until you approve, the friendship grants nothing — no access to private-zone pieces, and no ability to help recover the account. Anyone already on the list stays, and you can see and remove them from the same screen.
• Mentions and social links: Choose who can @mention your child, and whether they can show social links on their profile.
• Posting reminders: Prompt your child to think twice before posting a photo with a face in it, or a piece with its location shared.
• Creation limits: Set how many pieces your child can publish per day.
• Location controls: Force location to always be hidden on your child's posts.
• Remote lock: Instantly pause your child's account from your device. They'll see a message to talk to you to resume.

Weekly Activity Digest

When enabled, you'll receive a weekly summary of your child's activity—including time spent in the app, pieces created, and interactions received. The digest shows aggregate stats only. You cannot read your child's actual posts or comments, and your child knows what information you can see. We believe in transparency and privacy for the whole family.
